The Oculus Rift uses the "Guardian" system to set up a safe play space for Makerspace users, when configured properly the guardian system will warn users before they run into something (e.g. a wall) in the physical space. This will need to be done when the Rift is moved or if there is an issue with the sensors and the virtual room dimensions are skewed.
The Oculus Rift's controllers, straps, and foam should be cleaned with a non-abrasive anti-bacterial wipe. The lenses can be cleaned with a micro-fiber cloth but don't use any form of liquid or chemical cleansers.
For sanitary reasons, we place a VR Cover over the Rift S's headset. These covers should be replaced after each use and should be cleaned using a washing machine. Instructions for replacing the the cover can be found on the VR Cover website within a video entitled "Installing the VR Cover for Oculus Rift S"
A patron may not download or purchase Oculus Rift software. A request for software may be made by contacting the Makerspace Librarian.
If the Oculus is hooked up to an external monitor and nothing is showing up on the screen, make sure the HDMI (not DisplayPort) cord is plugged securely into the computer and external monitor. If there is still in issue, you may want to check the computer's display settings. You can do that by
If the video is working on the external monitor but not the audio, the audio settings within the Oculus software may need to be changed
If the Oculus isn't working and you come across the error "USB 3 Connection Required", make sure the Oculus' USB cable is plugged into the computer's blue, USB 3 port.
