Research Services
The UHV Library Reference Desk is staffed by a professional librarian at all hours the library is open. Librarians can assist you with your research and provide assistance and instruction on Internet-related searching as well.
Access to library databases is through your school account. Use the same credentials as you do to log into your student email.
You can get help without coming to the library. Our Ask a Librarian service provides:
- Email reference services. You can expect an answer within 24 hours
- Chat services
- Texting (SMS) services at 361-231-3138
- Call us at 361-570-4166
We also have Research Guides to help you when we aren't here.
You can schedule a Research Consultation with a librarian for more in depth research help.
Using other Libraries' Resources
Resources of libraries throughout the state of Texas are available to you through the TexShare card program. The TexShare card program is a reciprocal borrowing program. It is designed to allow the registered users of participating institutions to directly borrow materials from the libraries of other participating institutions. Those libraries that choose to participate sign a form stating they agree to honor the Card Program Agreement, which specifies the roles and responsibilities of the home and lending libraries, and library patrons. Each library has their own policy regarding privileges for Texshare patrons.
Registered users must obtain a TexShare Card from their home institution before they are able to check out materials from other participating institutions. To obtain a TexShare Card, contact Lori Bryan, Head of Public Services, (361-570-4161)
All UH System libraries require faculty from other UH campuses to have a Texshare card OR a current UHV ID along with a valid government issued ID to use their facilities or borrow. Remote access to UH-Central Campus databases is not supported by the University of Houston System. For more information, contact Karen Locher, Library Director.
