Reference Services
The UHV Library Reference Desk is staffed by a professional librarian at all hours the library is open. Librarians can assist you with your research and provide assistance and instruction on Internet-related searching as well.
Access to library databases is through your school account. Use the same credentials as you do to log into your student email.
You can get help without coming to the library. Our Ask a Librarian service provides:
- Email reference services. You can expect an answer within 24 hours
- Chat services
- Texting (SMS) services at 361-231-3138
- Call us at 361-570-4166
We also have Research Guides to help you when we aren't here.
Research for Distance Students
- Use OneSearch and limit your search to UHV Catalog to see what books the library owns.
- Check out the library Youtube channel for instructional videos for research.
- Using other libraries (including other UH System libraries) requires a Texshare card and a current state issued ID. You can request a Texshare card online.
Most of our online journal indexes and databases are available to distance learners. Your student email account username and password is required. Information about student email accounts may be found at:
- University of Houston-Victoria Student Accounts
- Links to online journal indexes and databases can be found at the Library's home page. Online resources may be chosen by subject categories or alphabetically. Study guides are available for many of the databases and for subject areas: https://library.uhv.edu/guides
- Use our Search Journal titles tab to determine if the citation you have found is available to you. The Journals List details all journals available at the UHV Library regardless of format (print, microform, electronic).
