This guide introduces basic concepts of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it can be applied to teaching, learning, and research. This guide also offers guidance on using generative AI ethically and how to cite AI-generated content. Related guides prepared by the UHV librarians are:
Generative artificial intelligence, often abbreviated as GenAI, is a type of artificial intelligence that can generate new content such as text, images, videos, audio, or software code in response to user prompts. It utilizes complex machine learning models, particularly deep learning, to analyze and learn from large datasets. (definition generated by Microsoft CoPilot)
You may not know it, but you interface with generative AI all the time. From Google Translate to autofill to chatbots, this technology is being integrated in web browser search, personal assistants (like Siri and Alexa), and of course, in chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini (formerly BARD), and Microsoft Copilot.
Artificial Intelligence is a large topic with many facets and sub-sets. We recommend the video below. It is 45 minutes well spent.
