Explore Your Roar Workshops Spring 2022

Join us for the Spring 2022 Explore Your Roar Workshop series! Each workshop will focus on a topic that will help a variety of students, researchers, and information seekers. This series is open to all UHV and VC students, faculty, and staff. Information about the specific workshops can be found below.

This semester we will be offering our workshops both online and in-person! Jaena Manson, our Online Learning Librarian, will be leading the virtual workshops and Alexis Hickey, our Instruction & Outreach Librarian, will be leading the in-person workshops in our Library Lab 2103.


Research Basics

Date & Time: January 31st | 4-5 p.m.   Location: UHV Library Lab 2103 and Teams

As the new semester begins, prepare yourself for your assignments and other research needs. This workshop will show you how to access the online resources available to you through the UHV Library. In this workshop you will learn what library services you can access online and how to find books, eBooks, magazine & newspaper articles, and scholarly articles.

Advanced Database Searching

Date & Time: February 10th | 5-6 p.m.   Location: UHV Library Lab 2103 and Teams

Go beyond basic keyword searching to more advanced techniques that will help you make the most out of your research time. This workshop will discuss database alerts, Boolean search operators, database fields, citation chasing, personal accounts & more.

Stem Research

Date & Time: February 17th | 4-5 p.m.   Location: UHV Library Lab 2103 and Teams

This workshop will discuss four of our popular science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) databases: Public Library of Science (PLOS), PubMed, IEEE Xplore, and ScienceDirect. We will explore what each of these databases can do for your research, as well as effective search strategies.

Fact or Fiction: Evaluating Content Online

Date & Time: March 7th | Noon-1 p.m.   Location: UHV Library Lab 2103 and Teams

Many of us have been warned against the dangers of misinformation and that we should fact check information before we believe it. The problem is that it can be difficult to know how to evaluate online content for reliability. This workshop will show you how to be critical about information in three easy steps so that you can navigate our information world confidently.

Using the Library for Personal Interests

Date & Time: April 28th | 4:30-5:30 p.m.   Location: Teams

Did you know that the library has more than just scholarly research? The UHV Library has both virtual and physical access to popular fiction and non-fiction books, magazines (like Entertainment, Forbes, Health, National Geographic, and People), newspapers (like the New York Times and Wall Street Journal), and documentaries. This workshop will show you how you can explore your interests by utilizing the FREE resources available to you as a UHV or Victoria College affiliate.
