The Vietnam Experience Conference, held Jun 13-14, 2013, brought together scholars, educators, and veterans to discuss many angles of the Vietnam Era. Participants discussed a range of topics, from military tactics to dissent on the homefront.
Keynote Speaker: Colonel David Taylor, "Our War: An Infantry Battatlion's Sacrifice in the Vietnam War
Colonel Taylor, Special Forces Branch, is an author, military historian and publisher. His book, Our War about his infantry battalion in the Vietnam War was published in 2011 and is now in its second printing. He has authored articles about military history in national publications. He served four years on active duty, including combat in Vietnam where he was wounded twice, and twenty-two years in the Army Reserve in special operations and counter-terrorism.
Dinner Speaker: Larry Chilcoat
Chilcoat is a Vietnam Air Force Veteran who served as a sentry dog handler. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument project, authorized by President Bush in 2008.
Luncheon Speaker: Dr. Dennis Riedesel
Dr. Riedesel is a Naval Reserve veteran who served on active duty during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an Associate Professor at UH-Victoria and is Interim Educational Coordinator for Museum of the Coastal Bend.
