• Electronic Resource Management - Ebooks, databases, video streaming, and all things electronic require constant upkeep. The CORAL Electronic Resource Management (ERM) product was chosen this year to assist. CORAL is an open source ERM designed at the University of Notre Dame. The challenge of open source software is undeniable and presented a number of problems. However, a multitude of spreadsheets have been packaged into one location for the administration of licensing, usage statistics, and other management needs. Librarians involved in this project were Tami Wisofsky, Electronic Resources Librarian and Grant Shaw, Web Services Librarian.

  • OpenAthens - During FY2017, library staff worked on the setup and testing to authenticate users who are accessing resources from outside campus networks. OpenAthens is an identity and access management system widely in use in Europe and in the United States medical industry for authentication. It is based on SAML and Shibboleth protocols. It will replace the IP based system currently in place. Librarians involved in this project were Tami Wisofsky and Karen Locher, Associate Director.Essential to this installation were Daniel Robinson, Victoria College Systems Administrator and Kayla Sappington, University of Houston-Victoria Systems Analyst. OpenAthens is scheduled to go live in December 2017.

  • Media Lab - Although no new technologies were added to the Media Lab in FY2017, media staff worked to promote the Media Lab and its available resources. Use of the Media Lab increased 63% over the previous year. 3-D printing and scanning also increased in use, with a number of requests coming from biology classes printing viruses, bones, chemical equations. Library staff participated at the Victoria Public Library Maker Fest and the Media Lab was featured in a "Best Practices for Instructional Videos" workshop presented to Victoria College faculty. Media Staff developed videos to promote the Media Lab and the Study Rooms. Library staff involved in Media Lab projects were Laurie Neuerburg, Media and Instruction Librarian; Grant Shaw; Rebecca Holm, Media Assistant; and, Michael Guion, Media Assistant.
